When it comes to the Lord, we should serve Him with all our hearts. You might ask "What other gods could I possibility have?" Well it could be anyone or anything that takes your time away from God. Are we allowing these others gods to take His place...is it our money, sports teams, our friends, our house, our cars, our jobs, our status, or our extracurricular activities, the music that we listen to or the TV? You may have all of these things but remember who gave you these. Having all these things are not bad but if you let that be your focus in life then these are things that have taken God's place in your life. Think about it...how much time do you spend on these other gods and how much time have you given to God?
I know I have been guilty of this but God is so good that He help me to put things into prospective. I found out that without Him I would not have what I have. Would I be like the rich man and have trouble giving up everything to follow Christ, last year I would have said yes but since then God has shown me that I can walk away from these things because my faith is in Him and not my possessions.
I pray that if you are reading this that you allow God to speak to you, ask Him to show you if you have other gods and then ask him to forgive you and to help you to walk closer with Him.
Romans 12:2-3 (NIV)
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
